Fall Release GVR Estate Vineyard Jack Robert's Run Syrah
2008

Winemaker’s Notes

After missing a year in 2007 due to rain at harvest, the Jack Robert’s Run Syrah makes a spectacular comeback with one of the finest Syrah offerings we have ever put to bottle. The intoxicating aromatic fireworks on display here are matched by the wine’s sleek coastal intensity and lingering peppery finish. A testament to this great vineyard site and expert farming in a fabulous year for Syrah, this wine holds a decade plus of aging potential for those who have the patience to allow nature to gradually take its course. The wine’s fruit extract and concentration are elevated due both to the moderate yield of the season in addition to fairly ruthless cluster thinning – we reduced the crop by approximately thirty percent two months pre-harvest. There are natural similarities to both the 2004 & 2006 jack robert’s bottlings but I think this may be as close to perfection we have yet come, as this wine for me has everything you could ever want from a cool climate style Syrah. Yet for all its inherent power and intensity it never veers to the ponderous or overripe, always maintaining the balance and liveliness that separates the good from the world class. Don’t miss this exceptional offering.

Saturated purple color; wonderfully intense high-toned floral aromas with sage, cracked pepper, bacon and blue fruit notes. Cassis, blueberry and blackberry liqueur dominate the palate with a swirling inner-mouth violet floral perfume. Great density and volume but also sleek, focused, long and elegant. Rich tannins and snappy acidity combine on a peppery youthful finish. Cellar for at least two years or decant before serving. Drink between 2012 and 2020.
