Fall Release Wildrose Vineyard Aidan Pinot Noir
2011
Winemaker’s Notes
Our 2011 Aidan Pinot is all about transparency and expression. Transparency of aroma and flavor and purity of Wildrose Vineyard expression. It’s not a ‘big’ overtly fruity wine but one that impresses with its poise and subtle complexity. There’s a real sense of layering to the wine, a beginning, middle and end, so that each time you return to the glass, something different presents itself. Fermented with 25% whole clusters in the fermentation vat, there are gorgeous autumnal notes arising from the wine which add a tobacco note, some olive and orange zest complexity alongside freshness and textural breadth. The wine broadens substantially in a sealed bottle overnight which indicates it will age well for six to eight years. It’s most reminiscent of our 2005 Aidan bottling which has gained greatly in depth and complexity over the years but always retained its crisp, vibrant edge. I expect this vintage to follow a similar path. There’s great style and complexity on offer here – true Pinot seduction.
Brilliant dark rose color. Great purity of aroma: crisp bing cherry, fresh raspberry and redcurrant then rosehip, tea and mineral notes. Spicy, savory autumnal notes develop with time. Forward sappy fruit on the palate – bright cherry crisp red apple skin, tangy cranberry. Complex tea and herbal notes broaden but the wine remains crisp, almost crunchy. Plush velvety texture takes hold and a sense of layered complexity. Refreshing acidity and polished tannins combine on the persistent finish. Drink between 2013 and 2019.
