Winter Release Meteor Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
2017
Winemaker’s Notes
Strongly influenced by the cooling effects of nearby San Pablo Bay, the “Grand Cru” Meteor Vineyard is planted in rocky volcanic ash on a prominent knoll-top in the center of the Coombsville appellation. Local winemakers have long appreciated this cool district in southeastern Napa known for its porous, low-vigor soils and dark succulent wines of beautiful intensity. World-class precision farming of our two clonal parcels allows us to fully draw out the site’s many unique nuances.
Perhaps the favorite among our 2017 Cabernets, this wine awakens senses with its aromatic fireworks and remarkable fruit purity. Enthralling, enveloping aromas draw you in: violet, licorice, dark fruits, bay laurel and pine needle. The palate follows the aromas—fresh, chewy and broad with a luxurious, deep texture. There’s incredible breadth to the flavor profile and the perfect level of blackcurrant–blackberry richness for the wine’s length and frame. The wine finishes with intense dark fruit and cocoa notes that resonate with an edge of cedar and cigar box.
Irresistible now, this is a 15+-year cellar-worthy treasure. Decant an hour prior to drinking in its youth.
