Winter Release Meteor Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
2022

Winemaker’s Notes

Strongly influenced by the cooling effects of nearby San Pablo Bay, the strikingly beautiful Meteor Vineyard is planted atop a prominent knoll in the shadow of an ancient caldera – essentially the crescent-shaped rim of an extinct volcano. Since the 1970s, local winemakers have appreciated the cool Coombsville district in southeastern Napa, known for its porous, rocky volcanic soils, long mild growing season, and succulent wines of noteworthy intensity. The precise organic farming of our two vine parcels allows us to fully draw out the site’s many unique nuances. The resulting wines are sleek and pure, overflowing with deep red and blackcurrant fruits and a fine line of acidity that warmer up Valley sites cannot match. Our 2022 bottling is one of the richer, softer vintages we’ve produced since starting here in 2015.

The wine’s aromas and flavors are akin to violet, thyme, mint, cedar and blackcurrant. A core of deep irresistible cassis fruit drives the wine, which is concentrated, succulent, and richly textured, revealing multiple layers. The round tannins are supple and combine with lively acidity on a finish which features sweet tobacco, licorice, and bright red mineral notes. Decant for an hour before serving and drink between 2025 and 2034.
